Committee on Congregational Ministries (CoCM)
(min’-iss-tree) – the use of a person’s gifts and talents, time, and energy, in the service of others; a calling or a passion to serve.
As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that each member of our congregation has the potential to improve the ministries within our community and that together we can help our congregation achieve its vision.
The Committee on Congregational Ministries covenants:
- To recognize all activities of the church as shared ministries.
- To be aware of the pulse of the various communities within our congregation and be ready to respond by fostering healthy relationships.
- To acknowledge that the Committee’s only authority is that which is granted it by the members of the congregation, and to work to build and nurture that sacred trust.
- To use our 7 Unitarian-Universalist Principles as a source of inspiration and guidance.
- To promote healthy relationships among all ministries of the church.
The purposes of the Committee on Congregational Ministries include:
- Ensure that the church’s ministries are serving its Mission and Vision
- Strengthen the quality of ministry within the membership
- Advise regarding roles within the ministries, both lay and professional
- Provide ministerial advisement, conflict engagement and resolution, and congregational assessment.
- Serve roles as defined by the Minister and/or Board.
The primary goal of the Committee on Congregational Ministries is to facilitate direct and constructive communication among members of the congregations and between members of the congregation and lay and professional ministries. While the Healthy Relations Team focuses on interpersonal relations, the Committee on Congregational Ministries emphasizes broader relationships within the congregation and may refer matters to other committees. Anyone with concerns about the health of any of our ministries is encouraged to contact Committee on Congregational Ministry.
The Committee on Congregational Ministries shall consist of the minister and four members who are not trustees, staff members, or standing committee chairs, serving staggered 2- year terms. The Minister with the Board’s approval selects one CoCM member annually, and the congregation selects one member annually. In case of a vacancy, CoCM may select an individual to serve until the next congregational annual election.
Current CoCM members are Evelyn Cape, Kim MacDonald, and Ron Phillips.
