UUCT is on the council for HOPE
To learn more about HOPE, see the brochures in the front hallway. If you are available during the day, volunteer to give 2 to 3 hours to be a support person on a corporate visit. Let Rev. Sharon Streater (813-221-4673) know if you would like to do this. To learn more about current issues, see the HOPE Board Meeting notes on the Social Action bulletin board. For more information, call Carol Partington, 813-985-9109.

Hillsborough Organization for Progress & Equality

The Hillsborough Organization for Progress and Equality (HOPE), consisting of multi-racial and interfaith congregations, is committed to winning a greater degree of justice in Hillsborough County through the power of a united voice. Based on the spiritual  values of justice, fairness, and dignity of persons, HOPE’s primary mission is to empower low-to-moderate income persons to identify community problems and effectively encourage public officials to take action to resolve those problems.

We are currently involved in the annual Support Drive. HOPE is funded in three ways:

1. Dues from member congregations

2. Individual and business investments

3. Non-governmental grants

When you make an investment in HOPE, you invest in yourself and the community.

HOPE is an opportunity to put into action our UU principles.  For more information, call Carol Partington, 985-9109. Checks to support HOPE activities may be mailed to the address below. Please indicate UUCT on the bottom of the check.

The Green Group . . .

What?:  The Green Group at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa is an educational information-sharing discussion group.  Meetings are open to all.  Newcomers and drop-ins are welcomed. For further information, contact Tom at TomOnTheRiver@yahoo.com

Tell me more:  The Green Group at UUCT has been meeting since fall 2007.  We are involved in Earth Day and local environmental action.  We have a foods ecology discussion topic ongoing.  There is plenty of room to explore and support your ecological interests.  We are currently a small, informal group facing leadership transition.  We have an electronic list where we post announcements, local events, and environmental web sites.  To join the yahoo group or follow our online postings, go to:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UUCTGreenGroup/

If you have energy and time to help spearhead the Green Group, please let us know.

Mission:  Our mission is to

To build awareness of societal environmental issues among UUs and friends in the community.

To support each other in making lifestyle changes that conserve natural resources.

To be an informed citizenry on environmental issues.

To build a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness.

To build awareness of and rectify environmental injustices.
