Fundraising Guidelines

Thank you for “taking-the-lead” in _______________________________.

To begin, keep in mind that a fundraising event should be planned with the expectation of turning a profit.

All proceeds raised for or during this event go into the Church’s General Fund unless otherwise approved by the Board. Special arrangements have  been made for concerts.

Expenses should be specified by type and estimated in advance for approval by the Fundraising Chair.  Approved funds will then qualify for prepayment or reimbursement.

Fundraising events should be planned with consideration of church events (rentals, holidays and other fundraising events …).

Suzie Siegel has a list of media contacts and Gloria Holloway has a list of media and persons for her concerts.  Feel free to ask them for their contact information when you do publicity.

For publicity, you will want to announce your event in the order of service (OOS) and the Domelight  (make requests to the Domelight editor before the 15th of the month to make it into the following month’s edition).  Contact Mary Francis to place announcement on our web-page.

You can ask for a "dispensation" to announce your event at the beginning of a Sunday service.

Contact groups within the church to encourage them to attend.  Examples are the Young Adults Group and SHAAG and Religious Education.

Think if there are any groups outside the church who might be specifically interested in your event.

Remember: You want people to come to your event because they are going to have fun, learn something, etc.  You can't expect people to come just out of loyalty to the church because many things are competing for their time.

Consider whether or not you need to arrange for childcare.

What kind of food will you offer, who will prepare it and who will clean up? Will you charge for it? What drinks will you serve? Will alcohol be available for a donation?

Whenever anything is sold on church grounds, the seller must make it clear upfront where the money is going. If people intend to keep any portion of the proceeds this needs Board Approval.

Have fun while raising CHURCH FUNDS,
