— A Multipurpose Building for Religious Education Join in the Journey We have a vision of becoming “a center for liberal religious education for people of all ages,” identified as a top priority by congregational vote late in 2006. Our goal is to be an asset to our community. However, our present facilities limit the growth of the
religious education program and the growth of the congregation as a whole. The large dome, housing our sanctuary and offices, and the small dome, currently devoted to our RE program, don’t provide an adequate environment for religious education classes or for multiple groups meeting simultaneously. So the Planning Committee reviewed the situation and decided a multi-purpose space for religious education and adult meeting rooms should be the highest priority of the Church. The Building Design Committee worked for a year to develop plans for a multi-purpose building
as the first phase of this development. As proposed, the building will contain about 3,550 square feet. At one of the largest turnouts we’ve ever had for a congregational meeting not related to calling a new minister, 90% of the members voted to proceed with a fund-raising campaign. The Construction committee was convened in the Fall of 2009. That Committee reviewed our building options, interviewing both modular and conventional builders. After extensive research, the committee recommended proceeding with conventional construction and that Reites
and Associates be selected as our builder. In May 2010, the congregation voted to move forward with the building and to secure financing. The Construction Committee has worked with the builder of our new multi-purpose building to refine a floor plan that will best meet our needs. To keep you up to date, copies of the floor plan and elevation are posted here, and soon, in our sanctuary. The plan includes
the placement of permanent classrooms (divided up according to grade level), a teen lounge, a teacher's area, storage area, and restrooms. You will see that the rooms designated for 6th – 8th grade levels can be converted into one large meeting room because they are separated by a movable divider, rather
than a permanent wall. A street level view of the building can be viewed here [elevation file]. And so, ‘The Journey Continues’. Thanks to everyone for their continued support. Questions about the building? |
